I’ve just started checking out Wanderfly (via @johngerzema), an interesting new travel site that inspires you to visit new places and experiences.
Essentially, the site allows you to plug in what you want to spend on an upcoming trip, what kinds of activities you’d like to do and when you want to do it. From those pieces of information, Wanderfly provides recommendations of cities and experiences (bars, museums, tours, destinations, etc.) that best align with your criteria. Simple. It even helps you book the trip you choose. And intelligently, the site harnesses the power of existing social media, such as Yelp, to populate its content.
What I love most about this site is that its an incredibly simple, yet very smart idea that relieves the anxiety of travel planning and replaces it with a feeling of excitement and spontaneity. It actually reminds me of Mint, which in my mind does a similar function of replacing the bad (cash management) with the good (achieving goals, monitoring progress).
Note: the site is still in beta, so you’ll have to sign up for an account to get rolling. It sent me a password to log in almost immediately although I did experience a crash while poking around.
